Definite Goodbye Unlinked.net? Or Temporary?

posted by Alvin Chan

Went over to Unlinked today, and I was shocked to see this.
Unlinked

Apparently, it seems Unlinked is closed indefinitely =/ I remember back then in the year 2000 to 2002, the local online counterstrike and team fortress scenes, where everyone gather to play in the few servers in Malaysia. Gameslah.com was the place back then where people were ranting and it serves as a community for the local online CS players.

Soon after Gameslah.com owner, Dennis Baker left Malaysia back to America, Gameslah.com was dead, and the majority of users went over to Unlinked.net back then in the year 2002 (or was it 2003?).

I was also 1 of the buyer of the first version of Unlinked T-shirt, which I remembered J drove his Proton Iswara car to deliver the shirt to me personally. Heh, thanks ya.

Unlinked hosted 1 Counterstrike and 1 Team Fortress Classic Server before, which I was the admin for awhile.

Even after that, Unlinked still continue to grow with members joining the community and leaving for some. Some old kaki friends, like Deimos Tel’arin, Setsuna, Myth-II- were no longer be seen anymore in the community. Few gatherings had already been held and members got to know each other well enough.

And so, at this day, 27th September 2006, will this be the end of Unlinked? the old community that links people together?

Time tells……

MoonCake, Hell or Heaven Food?

posted by Alvin Chan

I just realized that Moon Cake, the seemingly innocent food with nice burned, baked, soft crust, can be your path to taste the door of hell if you did not do a little homework of asking what is wrapped inside the crust.

Lotus Paste Mooncake
This is a typical mooncake with lotus seed paste. Gives a sweet taste without much hard particles when inside your mouth. My favorite! Because I hate egg yolks in mooncake! It really sucks, I can’t even eat frozen egg yolk, is that some sort of edible food? =.=

Five Kernel Mooncake paste
Now this is a moon cake with another type of filling, Five Kernel(五?). It is made of 5 types of nuts and blended with rock sugar into this piece of sticky paste. And I tell you, it really is tasteless!

Tasteless Mooncake
It is like a piece of rock inside your mouth, without any taste. Don’t try it if you don’t know how to appreciate the most expesive mooncake filling in the market. It will be like Monkey with a Flower.

Five Kernel Mooncake paste
And of cause, mooncake is best served with Chinese tea, which quenches your thirst while eating mooncake.

Path to KLIA is Path of Signboards

posted by Alvin Chan

Went of to fetch cousin sister arriving at LCCT from Bali. I realized this trend along the highway from USJ to KLIA, the path is full of SIGNBOARDS! My god, somehow I don’t get why would they advertise at the highway, where people are driving at high speeds and do not have much time to look at the surroundings. Either they have no more place to spend their money or they have no sense of advertising =.=

And here’s some of the advertisements I took along the highway to LCCT.

Wow, there’s a huge collection of signboards around the highway, spanning just less than 80km. Wonder how many people use the highway, and how many will actually notice them.

Here’s some Indonesian money I got from my cousin sis.

and a 500 rupiah coin.

Freedom!

posted by Alvin Chan

Yes! Here it is, 19th September 2006, Freedom from 14 weeks of studies! (or should I say, 2 weeks of midnight oil burning session)

Business Statistics, Microeconomics and Business Information Technology & Applications were kinda simple-going papers, except for Introduction to Accounting >.< Guess I need to put in more effort after all.

I just had 1 and a half hour of sleep for today, so I will end this post with few random pics for this week. Gotta go brain-storming for my concept project, rearrange my schedules and also completing my logo design. Adioz!

Keeping Alive During Revision Time

posted by Alvin Chan

Couple of days ago, since Monday till now, I had been living a different lifestyle, all for the sake of studying for the exams. The biggest drawback from doing revision is to get Knockout on your bed at anytime during the wee hours of the day. So, I came up with some measures to counter this Knockout effect, and it helps somehow, with the side effect of getting Knockout in the morning like a dead fish.

First off, this is my study table, covered in white notes.
Messy Table
At that time, I was doing some Accounting questions, and started to doze abit after a consistent time of revisioning.

So, I opened up my weapon for keeping alive.
Pringles
Pringles lets you crunch it in your mouth and has a salty taste in it, refreshes your mind and exercises your gums at the same time. You just won’t doze off that easily with Pringles in your mouth as you do your revision.

And to add on it, I have a cup of hot herbal tea, Ho Yan Hoh.
Herbal Tea
Do not underestimate the power of traditional medicine prescription. After eating Pringles, all you need is one mug of Ho Yan Hor tea and few glasses of water for the rest of the day and you will not catch a heat in your body anymore. Besides, the bitterness of Ho Yan Hor tea without sugar added will just hinder you from sleeping.

After my slight snack time, it’s time to continue my revision, with some sweets in my mouth ofcourse.
Hudson's
That’s right, Hudson’s sweet have a lasting taste in your mouth, be it lemon, herbal or lime flavour, and it feel’s just right to study after eating it.

And this method can lasted me for a couple of hours before I KO’ed in bed for the next couple of hours, immune to my alarm clock too. Try it at your own risk :D

On a side note as of writing time, Streamyx is driving me crazy, over the week it has been a slow crawl in download and upload speed. According to them, they are having some sort of upgrading sessions, and somehow their time of work is so out of range.

And here is the ping that I get from www.yahoo.com
Ping
400 to 600ms! And look at the frequent timeouts, something really is very wrong with you TMnet!

Instead of writing that damn time frame of 12am to 6am, you might as well write “The Upgrade Session Will Commence 24 hours throughout this Date Frame”. This will at least notify consumers like us what is going on, and not calling through customer careline 24 hours and asked about the slowdowns during the off upgrading time-sessions. Honesty is the best policy, hope you learn it TMnet.
